walkin
They were having a leadership meeting, so Nicky and I went to go get some tea and walk around the Ruiz neighborhood. Japan is home to all kinds of crazy teas. I got apple flavored, and Nicky got soda tea. Weirdly delicious. On the posts you can kinda see two lion dogs, or "shisa". And in the middle you can see a crazy Hawaiian girl.
Shisa are legendary creatures that became popular in the orient, and the story goes something like...once upon a time there was a horrible beast that no one could defeat, so they asked the lion to defeat it, which it did. Over time a lot of fanciful stories developed, and the shisa started looking more like a mix between a lion and a dog. It's power is thought to be second only to the dragon's, so they are all over Okinawa on people's gate posts, roofs and walkways supposedly guarding them from evil spirits. One shisa has its mouth open to scare away the bad spirits, and the other with the closed mouth welcomes the good spirits. I'm sure Pastor Tom would've chucked em if they weren't cemented to the bricks, hah.
Totally should model.
This shot seemed like a great idea, but it ended up not being as artistically spectacular as we thought.
